What is in Sausage Rolls?

Star Ingredient

  • Puff Pastry is a secret weapon in the kitchen when it comes to easy appetizers. I always keep a pack a puff pastry in the freezer which makes it easy for me to put together an appetizer or snack in a flash
  • In this shortcut recipe we will be using store bought sausage. This cuts down on the prep time as you don’t need to worry about seasoning ground pork to make your own filling. Simply pick up a pack of your favorite sausage and remove the casings for this recipe

How to Make Sausage Rolls

Full Printable Recipe Below

1 Defrost puff pastry according to package directions.

2 Preheat oven to 400°F or Air Fryer to 350°F.

3 On a lightly floured surface unfold your pastry dough and gently roll it out to flatten. Cut each sheet into 4 long rectangular sections.

4 Optional: Spread a line of honey mustard down the center of each piece of pastry. This adds a hint of sweetness to the rolls.

5 Remove casing from sausage. Place sausage in the center of each piece of pastry and stretch into a thin strip. Depending on the size of the sausage use 1-2 sausage per piece of pastry.

6 Brush one edge of each piece of pastry with the whisked egg. Roll the sausage roll starting from the end without the egg wash, over onto the egg washed side. Leave the sausage roll seam side down.

7 Cut each sausage roll into 6 equal portions about 2″ long.

8 Brush the tops of each roll with the whisked egg and top with the optional toppings if using.

9 Cook the rolls:

AIR FRYER COOKING METHOD
Place sausage rolls 2” apart (seam side down) in a lightly greased Air Fryer Basket/Tray. Air Fry for 8-10 minutes or until cooked through and golden brown.

OVEN COOKING METHOD
Place sausage rolls 2″ apart (seam side down) on a parchment paper lined baking sheet. Bake for 15-20 minutes or until cooked through and golden brown.

10 Serve with dipping sauce of choice or as is and enjoy!

Leftovers?

If you happen to have leftover sausage rolls, store in an air tight container in the fridge. Reheat in the oven at 400°F or Air Fryer at 350°F for 5 minutes or until warmed through. The sausage rolls are just as good reheated the next day!

Can Sausage Rolls be Made in Advance?

YES! These low prep sausage rolls can be made in advance. Shape and slice the sausage rolls and leave on a baking tray in the fridge. When you are ready to bake them simply add the egg wash on top, the optional topping and follow the baking instructions.

You can also make these ahead, bake them and freeze them! Reheat from frozen in the oven at 400°F or Air Fryer at 350°F for 5 minutes or until warmed through.
